February is Black History Month and the City of Guelph has a number of events lined up planned by the Guelph Black Heritage Society. The first is a tribute to Bob Marley, an artist that brought ragae music out of the dance hall and into the mainstream. Black Heritage Society member Carelton Gyles explains why The themes of freedom, love and hope found in Marley’s music mirror the intent of this celebration and that of Black History month is why Marley will be the focus of this kick-off event. Music for Saturday’s event will be provided by Built for Bob, a Marley tribute band. A DJ and some spoken word will round out the evening.
Everyone is welcome and things get going at 7 Saturday night. Admission is 8 dollars.
