With the cold weather this past weekend, the City of Guelph received about a dozen reports from residents with frozen water pipes.
Turns out all of those calls were due to internal plumbing – and the city says homeowners are responsible for those issues.
Some tips from the Water Services Department to help protect you household pipes include insulating pipes, especially where they enter the house and run along walls, or through crawl spaces, cold cellars, and attics.
Homeowners are also reminded to take care if trying to thaw pipes at home, and are recommended to call a licensed plumber for assistance. Open flames or torches should never be used thaw pipes.
