Guelph MPP Liz Sandals and Mayor Cam Guthrie were on hand to make a major infrastructure announcement at City Hall this morning. As part of the Provinces Connecting Links program, Guelph will receive $2.6 million to help rebuild a section of York road between Wyndham street and Ontario Street. The 850 meter stretch will be rebuilt from the ground up and will include new sewers, water pipes and storm drains. Above ground, new curbs and bike lanes will be added as well as a new surface.
Under the Connecting Links program, the government will cover up to 90-percent of the overall cost of the project. Guelph is one of 77 communities in the province eligible for the funding. A consultation and community engagement period will get underway shortly with hopes of having shovels in the ground this construction season.
