Seniors’ advocacy group CARP says it’s “delighted” that the Ontario government is backtracking on announced changes that would have increased drug costs for most seniors.
The Liberals’ recent budget included an increase in the low-income threshold for the Ontario Drug Benefit, but seniors above that threshold would have seen their deductibles and co-payments go up.
Following criticism of the move, Health Minister Eric Hoskins said yesterday that those deductibles will not be increased for seniors and that the threshold will be indexed to inflation.
N-D-P Leader Andrea Horwath says it shouldn’t have taken such an outcry for the Liberals to realize it was the wrong policy.
