It’s called the “Take a Bite Out of Lyme Disease Challenge”.
In front of Guelph City Hall tonight at 6, Green Party leader Mike Schreiner will join a group of people who will bite into limes, and make their best sour face.
Like last year’s A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge, it’s a fund raiser for the “International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society”.
Cecile Gough is a lyme disease advocate and educator.
She says if you are treated quickly with antibiotics, the disease is very treatable.
But if its missed, and this happens a lot, you develop chronic lyme disease, and she did.
Severe neurological symptoms, infertility, joint and muscle pain. She spent a year in a wheel chair.
Gough says they are starting to see some legislative changes, but they hope to amend health insurance acts across the country, so that people who go to the U.S. or Europe for treatment, can get funding.
