It was a tense three hours for residents and employees in section of Guelph’s downtown yesterday evening.
Guelph Police responded to a call last night at around 6:00PM at a business at 75-Farquhar Street on reports of a suspicious package being found.
An area including Farquhar Street, Wyndham, Surrey, and Carden was cordoned off.
Residents and employees of neighbouring businesses and homes within the perimeter were also evacuated.
No word at this time on what the package contained, but with the assistance of The Waterloo Regional Police Explosive Disposal Unit, the item was safely removed, inspected, and detonated. The contents of the package will now undergo testing to determine its composition.
Police reopened the area to the public just after 9:00PM.
