This year’s goal for the Guelph Food Bank’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is 80,000 lbs of non-perishable food items. You may have noticed the bag in your newspaper. But the term “food items” leaves out some very important things we all need on a daily basis, according to Pauline Cripps, the Marketing and Communications Manager with the Food Bank. Cleaning supplies and things like spices and seasoning mixes are also things not often thought of. This year, however, protein items seem to be the biggest need. Peanut butter, canned meat and fish, beans and lentils for example. Donations can be dropped off at any local grocery store, fire hall or the office at 100 Crimea street. Cash Donations are being accepted as well. This weekend, Wellington OPP will be set up at the Zehr’s Store in Fergus with their “Stuff a Cruiser” campaign. It will run all day Saturday and Sunday. Donations will go to the Center Wellington Food Bank.
