With some big spending plans on the horizon for Guelph Transit, $2.8M in provincial gas tax funding for the city will go to good use. Guelph MPP Liz Sandals made the announcement at City Hall today.
General Manager of Guelph Transit, Mike Spicer says the money will all be used for capital investments, with a significant portion going towards the purchase of new buses: 20-conventional buses and 9-mobility buses.
Spicer says a portion of the cash will fund transit infrastructure, improve customer amenities such as bus shelters, and potentially enhance some of their signalling technology.
He adds, this year’s funding is $26,000 more than what the city received last year.
He says the increase is attributed to Guelph’s additional transit ridership.
