the highlight of new year’s eve celebrations in guelph is again the fireworks display in riverside park.
put on by the rotary club of guelph, the show begins at 8:00. you are advised that before the fireworks, vehicle access to the park will be limited. so you will want to get their early to park.
but you can spend your time viewing the 30 thousand lights that are “sparkles in the park”.
and don’t forget, there are free carousel rides tonight.
to make sure you can get to and from your new year’s party safely, sleeman breweries is sponsoring the extended free bus service, offered tonight by guelph transit.
the free rides start at 7.
the buses run 2 hours later than usual.
the last ones leaves the downtown central station at 2:15 tomorrow morning.
sleeman has signed on to provide this service for the next three years.
and in centre wellington township, new year’s eve is marked by “first night”
the family-friendly event will take place in fergus along the riverwalk of the grand river, and the downtown area.
a stage by the library features entertainment throughout the evening.
merchants, pubs and restaurants will be offering food and drink. there will be warming stations at melville united church, the door, and the fergus grand theatre.
the event also marks the beginning of 2017, canada’s 150th birthday.
