Toronto police say a Canadian man of Kazakh origins has been arrested in Ontario — one of four suspects wanted by U-S authorities in a massive hack of Yahoo emails.
A police spokesman says 22-year-old Karim Baratov was taken into custody in Hamilton yesterday at the request of American authorities.
Mark Pugash says the arrest took place without incident.
He says Baratov has been turned over to the R-C-M-P, which says it assisted the F-B-I with its investigation.
The U-S Justice Department says a grand jury in California has indicted Baratov and three others, two of them officers of the Russian Federal Security Service, for computer hacking, economic espionage and other criminal offences.
According to the department, the four are alleged to have hacked into Yahoo’s systems and stolen information from up to 500-million user accounts. (The Canadian Press)
