Guelph General Hospital has unveiled its new $150,000 ophthalmology microscope.
And, a big pat on the back goes to the Guelph Lions Club, which raised the money to buy this specialized piece of equipment.
Dr. Bob Johnson says it was badly needed.
It replaces an old piece of equipment that wasn’t being technically supported anymore.
He says it’s imperative that surgeons have a good, magnified view of the eye, and that what this piece of equipment does.
It also has a video system, so you can replay the surgery. That’s handy for training purposes.
Every year, 1,400 cataract surgeries are performed at The General.
