Don Rickles, the insult comic known to his fans as “Mr Warmth,” has died at the age of 90. His publicist says Rickles died today of kidney failure at his Los Angeles home.
For more than half a century, Rickles headlined casinos and nightclubs from Las Vegas to Atlantic City and often appeared on late-night T-V talk shows.
Bob Newhart and his wife have issued a statement saying Rickles may have been known as “the Merchant of Venom” but in private was one of the most kind and caring people they have ever known.
Rickles is survived by his wife, Barbara Sklar, and their two children, Mindy and Larry.
