No one was injured, and police laid no charges. But they are reminding dog owners that when off your own property, your dog must be leashed.
Earlier this week, a 7-month-old, large breed puppy, which weighs about 70 pounds, began chasing a girl at a soccer practice.
The girl was frightened and upset.
This led to an altercation between the dog’s owner and the girl’s coach.
The owners were unaware of the City By-law regarding when and where dogs can be off leash.
They also said other people run dogs off leash in this park all the time, so they didn’t see the problem.
Certain parks in the city are designated off-leash areas. Dogs must remain under control, even when in designated off-leash areas.
When off-leash, “under control” means the dog remains within sight and earshot of its owner, it responds to voice commands, and is prevented from approaching within one metre of other animals or people.
