On New Year’s Eve, in 1967, Bobby Gimby wrote the song C-A-N-A-D-A to celebrate the country’s centennial anniversary. The tune sings the line “Church Bells will ring, ring ring” and they will do so once again this saturday to celebrate the 150th anniversary of confederation. All through the downtown core. 4 of the 9 churches downtown, that still have bells in their towers will ring in unison for two minutes, followed by O Canada being performed on the Carillons of St George’s Church. Residents are urged to find a comfy spot downtown and take in the history as we kick off celebrations of our national holiday.
