Pet owners are being put on notice after a resident spotted what they are describing as a sickly looking coyote with foam coming from it’s mouth, while out on a walk in the southwest end of the city.
The resident posted a message on a popular Facebook page warning about the coyote she spotted on the Niska Trails on Friday. According to the post, The Humane Society was contacted – and the Ministry of Natural Resources say coyotes, wolves, and possums are likely to contract rabies but is rarely the case in Ontario.
If you do come across a coyote showing aggressive behavior you should never approach or touch the animal, back away while remaining calm. and don’t turn your back.
Stand tall and make lots of noise to scare them off and contact the Humane Society once you’ve gotten away safely.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is scheduled to do urban and rural rabies vaccine bait drops throughout southern Ontario over the next two months.
