The City of Guelph has filed for a permit in accordance with City bylaw allowing for the removal of trees on the property located on Silvercreek Parkway between Paisley Road and Eden Street. The tree permit has not yet been issued, it is anticipated that the permit will be issued later this month.
The permit allows the owner to get the land ready for development by removing a total of 1,950 Trees.
However, the trees along the Howitt Creek Stream corridor and the railway line will not be removed, and neither will the large Bur Oak on site. The city is assuring that the property owner will be replacing the removed trees with 3,400 trees and shrubs as the land is developed.
The site, which is privately owned and known as the LaFarge Lands will have trees removed later this month, closing it to residents indefinitely.
