The Top of the Petrie Building Campaign took home one of the prizes from a crowd funding competition put on by National Trust of Canada titled “This Place Matters”.
The fundraising efforts to restore the historic building and it’s facade is now $40,000 richer after taking home one of the two prizes in the contest. It pitted 17-large projects and nine small projects against one another to raise money to save, transform or upgrade historic buildings and sites in communities across Canada..
The Petrie Building was awarded first place in the small projects category with $15,000, in addition to the $23,000-plus that was raised through the National Trust’s crowd funding platform..
Local volunteers have been working alongside the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario to raise the funds needed, and now with the prize have reached 80% of their goal.

The group is planning a campaign wrap-up event in the fall that will include a tour of the restored interior of the iconic building.
