Travellers are being advised to call ahead to find out if their flight has been delayed due to a strike at Pearson Airport.
700 members of Teamsters Local 419 walked out after rejecting a contract offer by a vote of 95% from their employer late last night.
On the picket line are ground crew members including baggage & cargo handlers, cabin cleaners and other ground staff.
They work for Swissport which services 30 airlines at the airport including Transat and Sunwing, but not Air Canada and Westjet.
The labour dispute is likely to impact some operations at Pearson but the Greater Toronto Airports Authority has said it has a contingency plan in place to deal with the strike but didn’t provide any specific details on what that plan entails.
