Hurricane Harvey left destruction in its wake as the numbers start getting tallied by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- More than 37,000 homes have been heavily damaged
- 7,000 homes nearly destroyed
- Approximately 32,000 people are in shelters across Texas
- Estimated that 320,000 people have applied for federal aid
As of last night, 39 people have been killed by the storm, mostly in the Houston area. The death toll could side as the flood waters recede into tonight and tomorrow morning allowing rescue workers to thoroughly search the areas hardest hit.
Relief efforts are flowing into the areas most affected by Harvey.
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency issued an official request today (Friday) for help in supplying the things they need for children. They’re looking for pediatric hygiene kits, pediatric pillows and towels, baby formula, baby bottles and cribs. Canada is stepping up to the plate to help supply some of these needs.
