A water main break shutdown a stretch of Victoria Road in Guelph Friday morning.
The large break caused water to be shut off to about 20 homes, but city officials said there are no health risks.
“We believe the older pipe here has cracked or broken,” said Wayne Galliher, Division Manager of Water Services for the City, said in a statement Friday afternoon. “Unless we discover that the break is more severe when we uncover the pipe, we expect to have this repaired by this evening.”
Victoria Road was shut down between Eastview Road and Hadati Drive.
Two-way traffic was expected to reopen to drivers Friday night and crews are expected to complete road restoration next week.
“Despite this break, it’s business as usual,” said Galliher. “The City’s built in system redundancy helps ensure that our day-to-day water needs are still met when main breaks happen, including water needed for emergency responses like fire suppression.”
