Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating an arrest by Guelph police after the suspect was sent to hospital.
In a media release, police said officers became involved in an investigation on July 30 at the intersection of Gordon and Water Streets.
A man was arrested, but was injured in the process.
“He was transported to the Guelph General Hospital, where he received medical treatment, but the extent of the injuries on that date were unknown,” police stated in the release.
Police said they only became aware of the injury to the man on Thursday and notified the SIU who have now invoked their mandate to investigate the incident.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
