Is this a good idea?

Somebody on my Facebook friends list posted the E-Card pictured to your right.  I must admit, as an animal lover, I chuckled. Then I realized something. Why aren’t we doing this? I know, you’re thinking that’s cruel. It’s a human rights violation. Not if they volunteer it’s not. How bout’ we offer prisoners (we’re talking serious offenders here, not someone convicted of petty crimes) a chance to earn some redemption by volunteering to be a guinea pig for drug trials?  Prisoners could be rewarded with extra privileges like TV time or snacks. NOT a reduced sentence. It’s a chance for an incarcerated person to give back to society, save an animal and help pharmaceutical companies create life saving drugs. Unfortunately, the government would never allow it. It makes too much sense!

Thanks Big Oil. We need that.

“I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” It was 1976. The movie was called “Network”.  A so-so movie.  A fantastic speech.  One that we all NEED to keep in mind as we drive past the gas stations today. What is big oil thinking? We are on the verge of coming out of a very steep economic slump. The economy is finally showing some signs of recovery. Nothing will crush that faster than unaffordable fuel prices. What can we do to fight back? How can we show big oil we’re “mad as hell”?  Thoughts? I would love to hear them.

Kid being kids

Posted By: Dave Hannah · 9/5/2012 9:35:00 AM

Last night I was down in the ward waiting for my son to finish his music lesson. Alice St. is torn up for sewer repairs and after the rain earlier in the day it was flooded. I noticed some boys playing in the water and I couldn’t help but laugh. I know, it might have been a bit dangerous, but it’s exactly what I did when I was a kid. After they tired of riding their bikes off the ramp into the “swamp” they started heaving mud at each other. Soon it was an all out “mud bomb war”. At one point I overheard one of the kids say “how mad do you think mom is gonna be?”. It’s good to see kids still play outside. This beats video games any day!

It's not over yet!

It’s way too early to start reflecting on this past summer….wait…did I just say past?  It’s not over yet! Technically, we still have almost a month left of summer, but you and I both know, for most of us, summer ends after labor day. As soon as the kids are back in school it’s time to start battening down the hatches and getting ready for our 8 month long Canadian winter.

The weather network released a bit of good news today. They are calling for a warmer than average fall without a lot of precipitation.  Great. Is it just me or do you feel like we are going to take a beating this winter? We had a mild winter last year, a long dry hot summer and if the weather network is correct, a lovely fall. Sooner or later…..I’m just sayin’.

Prove me wrong Mother Nature. ...

This could have been so much worse.

I have to admit when I first read this story, I laughed. It seemed like just another story about an overzealous pro-gun American.  They’re not all like that by the way. I have traveled extensively in the US and for the most part, Americans are just same as we are. For the most part….then you read a story like this.  Read the story and let me know what you think. All I can say is “thank god this man, a police officer no less, was not armed”. The two “thugs” he describes in the story turned out to be a couple of 20 something kids hired to hand out discount coupons for the Calgary Stampede. This could have ended so much worse.
